The Sounding Board

Business gets lighter when you don't have to think alone.

There comes a point in business where you realise you don't actually need more information.

You've invested in yourself. You've learnt from people you admire. You've worked hard to build a business you're proud of.

The challenge isn't that you don't know enough anymore.

It's that you're carrying too much of the thinking on your own.

Every opportunity, decision and unexpected challenge lands with you first.

You find yourself thinking about the business while you're driving, walking the dog or trying to switch off at the end of the day. Ideas arrive at inconvenient moments. Questions sit quietly in the background for weeks. Some decisions start to feel much bigger than they probably are simply because you've been carrying them around for too long.

That's the season of business The Sounding Board was created for.

It's an ongoing thinking partnership for founders who want somewhere their ideas can land, their decisions can be explored, and the weight of leading a business doesn't have to sit with them alone.

The real value isn't advice.

It's shared context.

One of the hidden costs of growing a business is that every important conversation with someone new starts with bringing them up to speed.

You explain what's happened over the past few months. Recap previous decisions. Describe your offers. Introduce the people involved. Explain what you've already tried.

And only then do you arrive at the thing you actually wanted to talk about.

By that point, you've already done half the thinking yourself.

The Sounding Board works differently.

Over time, I build a deep understanding of your business.

I come to understand not only what you do, but how you think, what matters to you, the decisions you've already made, what you've tried before and the direction you're heading.

That shared context changes the quality of our conversations. Instead of rebuilding the picture every time, we can step straight into what matters now.

We can connect today's decision to a conversation we had three months ago.

Notice when the same pattern is appearing again.

Remember why you decided not to pursue something last time.

Recognise when something has genuinely changed.

Or ask whether the opportunity in front of you actually fits the business you're trying to build.

Each conversation starts further ahead than the last. That's why this relationship becomes more valuable over time.

Not because I arrive with all the answers.

Because I understand your business more deeply with every conversation.

A different kind of partnership.

Every founder needs different kinds of support at different stages of business.

Sometimes you need a coach to help you explore what's possible.

Sometimes you need specialist expertise.

Sometimes you need a mentor who's walked the path before you.

And sometimes you need a capable person or team to take something off your hands and get it done.

The Sounding Board doesn't replace any of those.

It sits alongside them.

This is the place where the moving parts can come together.

Where the idea from your coaching session can be considered alongside what you already have planned for the next three months.

Where an opportunity can be weighed against your capacity before you automatically say yes.

Where the person you're thinking about hiring can be considered in the context of what the business actually needs.

Where half-formed ideas can be spoken aloud before they become another project on the list.

Where decisions can be explored before they create consequences elsewhere in the business.

And where you can say, "I've got something going around in my head and I need to talk it through," without having to know the answer before we begin.

I don't think of this as coaching, consulting or implementation.

I refer to it as an ongoing thinking partnership.

What it's like to work together

One of the things clients often tell me is that our conversations don't feel rushed.

They don't feel like someone trying to jump to an answer before they've really understood what's happening.

Instead, we talk.

I listen.

I ask questions.

As you talk, I'm building the picture in my mind, listening for patterns, noticing connections between different parts of the business and asking questions that help us understand what's really going on.

Sometimes I'll challenge an assumption.

Sometimes I'll point out something that doesn't quite add up.

Sometimes I'll remind you of something you said three months ago.

Sometimes I'll ask the question you haven't thought to ask yet.

And sometimes I'll simply help you take all the thoughts that have been circling and put enough shape around them to see what comes next.

One of the questions I often find myself asking is:

What's the next right step?

Because we're not trying to solve everything in one conversation.

And you rarely need to solve everything at once.

You need to know what deserves your attention now, what can safely wait and what doesn't need to be carried at all.

What might we work on?

Because this support follows your business, no two months look exactly the same.

One month you might come out of a coaching session with pages of ideas and send me a voice note saying, "Right. What do I actually do with all of this?"

We'll talk through what matters, what fits with everything else already happening, and what the next step needs to be.

Another month, you might be considering hiring someone but aren't sure whether you need a VA, specialist, operational support or something else entirely.

Rather than beginning with who should I hire?, we can step back and work out what does the business actually need?

You might:

✔ have an opportunity or investment in front of you that you want to pressure-test before saying yes

✔ send me a proposal, sales page, presentation or important client communication for another perspective before it goes out

✔ be wrestling with a difficult client or team situation and want to talk through how to handle it

✔ want to map out an offer, launch, project or idea before committing resources to it

✔ realise a process isn't working anymore and need help deciding whether to simplify, document, delegate or automate it

✔ need to turn a collection of ideas into an actual sequence of decisions and next steps

✔ have something you can't quite articulate beyond, "This isn't working and I don't know why."

And sometimes you'll simply need to send me a message saying:

"Can I talk this through with you?"

Because I already know the context, we don't have to start from the beginning.

We start from where you are now.

"Julia well understands the challenges of running a small business and is a valuable source of wisdom, particularly at times when small business feels hard. I trust Julia to interact with my clients, and she has a strong ability to make decisions which would likely mirror my own when required. She is a great sounding board and takes great pride in delivering a positive client experience, not just for her own clients, but for theirs as well."

What changes over time

Over time, this kind of relationship can help you:

Make decisions with greater clarity and less second-guessing
Turn ideas into practical next steps rather than letting them sit unfinished
Recognise patterns and recurring problems earlier
Separate what's important from what's simply making noise
Consider decisions in the context of the whole business rather than in isolation
Move from thinking into action with less friction
Carry less of the mental load of leading the business alone

The goal is to give you the perspective and support to make your own decisions with greater clarity.

“Julia is an absolute powerhouse of knowledge. She listens attentively, and finds solutions to all of my problems with an expertise and skill level that is second to none.

Julia does this with a kindness, a compassion, and a complete lack of judgement. She's incredibly encouraging and supportive.

She recognised the uniqueness of my business and who and what my needs are. She's gone above and beyond to connect me to the most perfect resources."

CASE STUDY

What this looked like for one founder

Natalie originally came to me looking for support with the backend of her business.

But as we worked together, something else became increasingly clear. The biggest bottleneck wasn't simply the work that needed doing.  It was the decision-making that needed to happen before the work could move.

There were ideas to shape.

Priorities to decide.

Processes to rethink.

Questions about what should stay with her and what could move elsewhere.

And decisions that affected several other parts of the business at once.

Over time, our work became as much about thinking together as it was about operations.

We could pick up conversations without rebuilding the context. I understood what she was trying to create, what we'd already discussed, what decisions had been made and where things tended to get stuck.

That continuity became part of the value.

As Natalie put it:

"I really need someone who can help me at more of a decision-making level. Because I'm still a delegation bottleneck."

And:

"The hardest thing is the decision-making that needs to happen before I sit down to do the stuff.

It's so helpful to have someone you can just be in a conversation with."

THE MISSING INK

That's what The Sounding Board is designed to create.

You're still leading your business. You're simply not doing all of the thinking around it alone.

What support looks like

Your business changes from month to month, so this support is deliberately flexible.

Some months we'll spend more time in conversation.

Other months you might need feedback between sessions, another perspective on something you're working on, or help turning an idea into something practical.

Your monthly partnership includes:

Up to five hours of flexible support

Used across the month in the way that's most useful for what's happening in your business.

Scheduled thinking support

Time to think out loud, untangle ideas, pressure-test decisions and work through things properly.

Voice note and message support

For the questions that arrive between meetings, when you'd rather put the thought somewhere useful than carry it until our next conversation.

Review and feedback

Send me proposals, sales pages, presentations, client communications, planning documents or ideas when you want another experienced perspective.

Strategic and operational decision support

We can work through decisions about offers, people, systems, opportunities, priorities, capacity and the way the different parts of the business fit together.

Planning and implementation pathways

When an idea is ready to become action, we'll work out what needs to happen next, who should own it and how it fits alongside everything else already underway.

If something moves beyond thinking and into significant implementation, we'll recognise that too.

Is The Sounding Board right for you?

This is likely a good fit if you're an established founder who wants someone to think alongside you, rather than take over the backend of your business.

✓ You process ideas well through conversation.

✓ You're making decisions that affect more than one part of the business.

✓ You value another perspective and you're comfortable being challenged when it helps you see something differently.

✓ You're tired of starting from scratch every time you ask someone for help.

✓ And what you're looking for now is less about finding the expert with the answer and more about building a relationship with someone who understands enough of the whole picture to help you navigate what comes next.

This probably isn't the right fit if...

  • You're primarily looking for someone to complete a set list of tasks each month.

  • You want a fixed monthly deliverable rather than support that responds to what's actually happening.

  • You want someone else to make your decisions for you.

  • You only have one contained problem or decision to work through. Fresh Set of Eyes is probably the better starting point.

  • You already know what needs to happen and need significant implementation rather than thinking support. Operational Support is likely the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

INVESTMENT

$499 AUD per month

Up to five hours of flexible support across each 30-day period.

A note about how the five hours work.

Your five hours can be used flexibly across our work together, including scheduled conversations, messaging support, document reviews, feedback, planning and decision support.

I'll respond to WhatsApp messages during business hours, usually within 24 hours. Any time I spend reviewing documents, responding to messages or working on something for you is included within your five hours.

Unused time doesn't roll over from month to month. You're not paying to make sure every minute gets used. You're paying to have that time, support and access available when you need it during the month.

Everything begins with a Connection Call.

We'll talk about what's happening in your business, what you're looking for and whether The Sounding Board is the right fit.

Business gets lighter when you don't have to think alone.

The decisions won't stop coming.

Neither will the ideas, opportunities, unexpected challenges or moments when you're not quite sure what the right next step is.

The difference is that they don't all have to stay in your head until you've worked them out by yourself.

You can have somewhere to bring them.

Someone who remembers the conversation before this one.

Someone who understands what you're building.

And someone who can ask:

What's really happening here?

And what's the next right step?

That's The Sounding Board.

Where Business Meets Heart

Every business is built by a person.

When we care for the person carrying the business, we build a stronger business too.

That's the work I care about most.
